Crisis Services Volunteer Opportunities

Ways to learn and grow while serving your community:

  • HELPline Crisis Counselor

  • Provide a trained and caring response to crisis line calls.

  • Mobilize sources of help for persons at risk for suicide, domestic violence, and/or sexual assault trauma.

  • Provide a calm presence to persons overwhelmed by stress.

  • Draw on agency database to guide people in locating community resources to meet needs.

  • 2-1-1 Volunteer

  • Answer calls to the 2-1-1 community information system

  • Make referrals from our community resources database. 

  • HOPE Place Advocate

  • Respond to telephone crisis calls related to domestic violence.

  • Provide guidance to clients to ensure safety and end abuse.

  • Carry out screening procedures for admission to HOPE Place.

  • Provide referrals for counseling, legal assistance, and other needed services. 

  • Domestic Violence Responder - accompany police to domestic violence calls.

  • Reassure victims and children that help is there for them.

  • Arrange for admission of clients to HOPE Place when safe shelter is needed.

  • Provide information and referrals.

  • Provide 911 bags to children (includes stuffed animal and educational coloring book). 

  • Sexual Assault Response Advocate

  • Be present with sexual assault victims at time of crisis.

  • Create a bond to facilitate further help.

  • Let victims know they are not at fault and they are not alone.

  • Provide each victim an information packet and clothing to wear after forensic exam.

  • Respond to needs of victims of past sexual assault who are experiencing distress. 

  • HELPline Giftwrap Workers

  • Volunteers are needed to wrap gifts, to serve as weekly booth captains, to assist in scheduling workers, and to deliver supplies for this fund-raising event.

A 12-session training class is provided three times a year. 

Since it was founded, HOPE Place has provided safe shelter and the hope for lives free of violence to nearly 11,000 women, children and men.


HELPline has answered nearly a million phone calls since 1971, over 30,000 a year.

Forensic Nurse Examiners provide exams to about 120 sexual assault victims each year.

 

Sexual Assault Crisis Counselors touch the lives of hundreds of victims and their families.

 

Crisis Services of North Alabama offers HELP and HOPE to nearly 50,000 people in North Alabama each year.  But we need your help.
