Domestic Violence Awareness - October 2011 Events
In October 1987 domestic violence advocates across the country joined the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence to create a month long campaign to raise awareness of domestic violence in communities across America.

Appreciation for Law Enforcement: Madison, Morgan, Jackson & Limestone Counties.
October 20 - Jackson County Candlelight Vigil
6:00 pm at the Jackson County Courthouse. This is a celebration of survival and remembrance of lives lost to domestic violence. Open to the public.
October 22 - Domestic Violence Awareness Panel Discussion

100 local hair salons display domestic violence awareness materials in their shops.
All October - SAFE Card Project:
Posters listing local and national phone numbers where abuse victims can get help.
All October - White Ribbon Campaign :
Men and boys sign a pledge and commit to preventing violence against women and girls.
All October - Bookmark Project:
“Loves Me, Loves Me Not” Bookmarks depicting the traits of positive and negative relationships are distributed in local schools.
All October - Silent Witnesses Project:
The Silent Witness statues will be part of each scheduled event throughout the month. These statues are visual reminders of lives lost to domestic violence in our community. Call 256-653-8527 for more information.

All October - Workplace Campaign to End Domestic Violence
Informational letter campaign to local businesses to protect employees in abusive relationships.

the community
All October - GiGi’s Cupcakes: Madison and Huntsville stores selling
purple cupcakes to public raise awareness.
All October - “Purple Ribbon” Car Magnets: All Madison Police Department

HELPline Turkey Trot November 24, 2011
Come run in our 5k family fun run on Thanksgiving morning then enjoy a guilt-free Thanksgiving feast because you've already burned all those calories. Kids can race our Turkey in the Tiny Tot Turkey Trot.
HELPline is available 24 hours-a-day, 7 Days-a-week offering emotional first aid and information and referrals for people who need help. Gift-wrap is HELPline's largest and most important fund-raiser. Hundreds of volunteers man booths at Madison Square and Park Way Place malls and wrap gifts from early December through Christmas Eve. If you would like to help wrap gifts, we would love to have you. Support you community crisis line. Let us wrap your gifts this Holiday season.
